The Riding and Road Safety Test helps educate riders in road safety in order to minimise the risk involved when riding on the roads.
The test is available to all riders from 12 years of age and is supported by the Department for Transport. It is the only test that any rider will undertake that has the potential to save not only their own life, but also that of their horse and other road users.
The test is a professional qualification and is a pre-requisite for the BHS Stage 2 exam and the Pony Club B test.
The test consists of three parts; a multiple choice theory paper, a simulated road route and the actual road route and candidates must be successful in each part to be able to move on to the next.
Generally, we recommend 7 x 2hr training sessions to ensure candidates are fully prepared for the test. To hold a test we need 10 candidates; therefore, we usually only run a training program and test once a year.
Further details, including the cost of the test, can be found on the BHS website.
